TABLE 1
I love that fact that it's simple, funtional, and large enough for 6+ people without needing to be too big and take up too much space. It is also multi purpose - as a dining table, craft table or makeshift fort. Also, it folds away so in the seasons when you won't want to sit outside you can fold it away out of site or when you do want to be outside, you can move it easily to the sunniest spot...

CREATING SPACES: TRADITIONAL ROUNDPOLE FENCE
Traditional Scandinavian Roundpole Fencing
The oldest example of this type of fence dates back to Sweden in the Iron Age and has also been commonly found across Norway, Finland and Estonia since then. It is traditionally used to fence-in animals but i think it has a beautiful structural quality that would look really striking in a garden setting. It's currently undergoing a bit of a revival across Sweden and i think it would make a really nice addition to the garden as a way to divide the space...

ARCHI5 - MARCEL SEMBAT HIGH SCHOOL - GREEN ROOF
MARCEL SEMBAT SCHOOL
Architects: Archi5
Green Roof Project
France
A really inspiring example of how the idea of green roofs in large scale architectural projects are starting to really evolve into a central part of the main design.
This paragraph from designboom.com explains the project in a bit more detail, starting off by talking about what the school teaches and how that went on to influence the design:
"...offering technical teaching on the subject of automobiles and vehicle mechanics, the brief called for vast volumes with high ceilings and large surfaces. the scale of the program meant that the project involved landscape design, architecture and town planning...envisioned as a clearing between a large park and the city, the development is integrated within its context with green-roofs that cover the workshops below. starting at the edge of the site, the structure’s design features fluid lines and slopes that blend naturally with the landscape. the roof’s design allows natural light to permeate the structure, while protecting internal volumes from the sun’s heat. internally, classrooms are positioned alongside the workshops, sharing a direct visual relationship and connecting intellectual and manual activities..."

GREEN ROOF
GREEN ROOF - for outdoor studio
The client stated that nature was an important factor they wanted considered in the design of the garden, so by incorporating a green roof on the studio roof i will be able to maximise on the space that i have.
The siting of the studio will effect the plant species i can use on the roof and in turn the plant species used will effect the aesthetics of the building itself.

SWEDISH HOUSES - STUDIO INSPIRATION pt.2
Traditional Swedish Houses.
FALU RED:
Falu red is a traditional paint in Sweden, used on wooden buildings. I think this description of it on this paint makers website (http://falurodfarg.com/eng/here) sums it up really well:
"...the colour is as alive as the experts who burn the pigment. It is a craft that has been handed down in our production process since we started serious pigment manufacture in the mine area in 1764. An experienced Swedish user of red paint knows that it is a natural product and that it is therefore best to change batch at the corner of the house just to be sure..."

Clean Lines / Balance
The client has requested a studio for the garden where she can work on her illustration work whilst still being around to look after her small children. I want the structure to fit in with the Swedish theme for the garden, but to also be quite a statement in an architectural sense too.
